School Superintendent's Contract Renewed

The St. Bernard Parish School Board, in one of its final actions of 2009, agreed to extend the contract of current School Superintendent Doris Voitier until June 30, 2012.

The vote came during a special meeting of the Board called for the purpose of completing Voitier's annual evaluation. After meeting briefly with Voitier behind closed doors, the board agreed to the contract extension by unanimous vote of the members present.

Board member Perry Nicosia, who made the motion to extend the contract, said that offering that motion on the table was the "easiest thing I have had to do as a Board member." Board members heaped praise upon Voitier for her leadership and efforts at rebuilding the school system following Katrina.

Voitier, who has worked for the school district for 39 years, is in her 5th year as district Superintendent.
